Your 6-month wedding checklist

Six months is enough for a lovely wedding if you book the big things first and keep the rest simple. This is Bridewell's checklist as the app schedules it for a couple starting six months out: what is already late moves to your first days, in the order that matters.

What to simplify with six months

  • Pick the venue first: it fixes the date and the guest count, and many venues come with catering or a list of vendors they work with.
  • Be flexible on the day: a Friday, a Sunday or a quieter month opens dates and vendors that a June Saturday doesn't.
  • Order attire straight away; made-to-order outfits and alterations can take months. Ready-to-wear and sample sales are quicker.
  • Send save-the-dates now — you are already in the usual window — and invitations 8 to 6 weeks before.
  • Keep the guest list tight: every name you don't add is a seat, a meal and a reply you don't chase.

Questions, answered

Is six months enough to plan a wedding?

Yes, for most weddings. Book the venue, photographer and caterer in the first weeks, decide quickly, and choose vendors who are free on your date rather than waiting for one who isn't.

What should we book first?

The venue, because it fixes the date and the size. Then the photographer and the caterer, whose calendars fill early, then music, florist and attire.

Can I get this checklist with my own dates?

Yes. Enter your date in the free [wedding checklist](/wedding-checklist), or create your wedding in Bridewell: the app gives every task a due date from your date, moving anything already late to the coming days.
